Frequently Asked Questions

What is a 1099 Contractor?

All therapists are hired as a 1099 contractor

1. How is a W-2 employee and a 1099 independent contractor different?

A W-2 employee works directly for a company, which controls the means and methods of their work and withholds taxes from their paycheck. A 1099 independent contractor, which is the model we use, operates as a separate business entity. As a contractor, you provide professional services to our company based on the terms of a contract, giving you greater autonomy and control over your work.

2. How are taxes handled for a 1099 contractor?

As an independent contractor, you are responsible for managing your own taxes. Our company does not withhold income tax, Social Security, or Medicare from your payments. You will receive a Form 1099-NEC from us at the end of the year detailing your total earnings. It is your responsibility to pay self-employment taxes and make estimated quarterly tax payments to the IRS and state authorities.

3. Am I eligible for benefits like health insurance and paid time off?

Independent contractors are not eligible for company-sponsored benefits such as health insurance, retirement plans (like a 401k), or paid time off (PTO). You are responsible for securing your own insurance and planning for your own retirement and time off, just as any small business owner would.

4. Who is responsible for my professional expenses?

As a 1099 contractor, you are responsible for all your business-related expenses. This includes maintaining your professional license, securing your own professional liability insurance, costs for continuing education, and any tools or equipment you need to perform your services. Many of these expenses may be tax-deductible for your business.

5. How much control do I have over my schedule and clinical decisions?

A key advantage of being an independent contractor is professional autonomy. While we require that all services meet professional standards and patient needs as outlined in our agreement, you have control over your schedule and the specific clinical methods you use to achieve patient goals. This is different from a W-2 employee, whose hours and methods are typically directed by the employer.

6. How will I be paid for my services?

We process payments in two monthly cycles. Payments are made 40 days after the end of a cycle.

  • Services for 1st - 15th of the Month are paid 25th of the Next Month
  • Services for 16th - End of the Month are paid 10th of the Month After Next
